Fabric Care

Ramie Linen

To best care for your ramie linen garment it should be hand washed in cold water or machine washed on a low spin cycle. Line drying is preferable but if using a machine dryer it should be on the lowest temperature. Shrinkage will appear with drying in warm temperatures. The fabric does crease easily so it is best to air-dry flat. Steam iron the garment while it is slightly damp to remove wrinkles. It is best to hover the iron over the garment using the steam setting, or press using the lowest setting. The fibers of ramie linen can be weakened with chlorine bleach, so remember to dilute the solution before using.

Rayon Linen

Cold wash the garment on a delicate, low spin cycle. Line drying is preferable but if using a machine dryer it should be on the lowest temperature. Shrinkage will appear with drying in warm temperatures. Always iron on the wrong side of the fabric and for extra protection use a pressing cloth.

Bull Denim

Using a gentle detergent and set the washing machine cycle to delicate cold wash and rinse. Do not tumble dry, as bull denim is prone to shrinkage. Use iron on a low setting to remove wrinkles and do not dry clean.

Hemp

Hemp fabric requires a gentle wash cycle or hand wash. When hand washing, remember to rinse thoroughly as soap residue can cause oxidation (brown spots). Use cold water if the hemp fabric is coloured, or warm water if not. Chlorine bleaches cause yellowing in hemp fabrics so try to avoid. It is best to line dry your hemp garments in the sun. Don’t wring before drying, as this will cause unnecessary wrinkles. Iron the hemp garment while it is still slightly damp and iron the wrong side first and then the right side to bring out the sheen. Hemp can withstand the high temperatures on your iron.

Silk

Most silk item will be dry clean ONLY. Otherwise one can hand wash their silk garment by soaking it in cold water with a silk friendly detergent and gently swirl it around in the water. Rinse with cold fresh water, you can also use a little bit of fabric softener or hair conditioner, and then gently rinse again. Lay flat to dry and use a towel to dab out excess moisture. Do not wring out. Washing silk will cause creasing and this can only be removed with a steamer. Always hang silk garments.
